Traveling grounds have always bothered me: people make gateways to traveling grounds so that they do not cut by accident random people. Mh. What about the people that actually are in a traveling ground? Such as, you know, other channelers that are using them.
If you focus every gateway directed into a place in the same area, when you are in that area, there will be very high chances of someone else going there and cutting you!
Now, did I miss something?

Sort of, yes.
Travelling grounds are set with an outgoing spot and an incoming zone, both well separate. Leaving the location is thus perfectly safe, no incoming gateway will open to slice you up. As for incoming gateways, they are opened on a specific spot. Two gateways cannot open on the same one at the same time, when two persons open gateways at the same time, the second one is shifted to the side.
What makes it safe is that everyone using those travelling spots know the rules and the exact spots to open their gateways. The system wouldn't work for complete strangers - for that the AOL protocol of safety/politeness (as implied by comments made by Graendal) is to hold the gateway weave before it opens, send chimes to the other side, wait for a signal the person on the other end is out of the way and allows you to open a gateway, and only then let the gateway open fully. Graendal implied opening gateways without sending a warning chime was quite rude (and in the WOS era, a good way to get yourself killed, I would imagine).
