I now understand that he excelled in various fields. But the one thing he was better at than others was his skill and strength in the OP.

I guess it depends on whether you believe the Forsaken he defeated when they say he only won by luck. I suppose LTT was ta'veren, too, though, so perhaps they DO have a point. How frustrating would that be, too outplan, outprepare and outthink your opponent only to meet crushing defeat because the Pattern will allow nothing else...? :[

But, yeah, that's essentially it, a least in my estimation, though obviously I agree with GLoC that, "professionally" he was at least a very good politician turned general, if not the very best.
