It was a strange way it met its demise. That it can survive passing gateways doesn't seem to fit with RJ's explanation about Constructs. Brandon at a Q&A apparently said the gholam didn't die because it wasn't shadowspawn (which is plain wrong), but RJ has called it a construct before, and the killing gateways have nothing to do with Shadowspawn, even the OP constructs, like Nym and chora trees, cannot survive gateways... We also know from RJ it is mortal, it's not a machine or something.

I don't have my book in front of me, but couldn't the gholam have died upon falling through the gateway, and the characters just don't know it?
Does Mat or anyone else involved know that Shadowspawn can't pass through gateways and survive? Or is it just Rand (via LTT) that knows this?
