In ToM it was made clear that really experienced users of the “wolf-dream” like Perrin and Slayer are usually even more powerful than a channeler, let alone normal people. That leads to the question why Slayer wasn’t able to easily kill Perrin with his awesome abilities in TSR or the Wondergirls. Even in ToM, Slayer was generally much stronger than Perrin (who blocked balefire).

Sadly, it seems to be another example where the normally much more dangerous character doesn’t manage to kill a less able one, just for plot reasons, although it doesn’t really make sense (like the Forsaken often not be able to kill the good guys).
