It seems to me that the Pattern tries very hard to keep The Dragon from this situation because the solution would come from another source, and the Dragons' role might not be to directly act against the Bore, but to impede the Dark One.

As Verin indicate, Rand thinks the Last Battle will happen one way, but that's not how it will really go down, and the same could be said for how to close the Bore. The memories from his past life are very dangerous in that he has some of Lews Therins' arrogance, and it is possible that Rands' confidence is misplaced. There's an entire book to go and I doubt the solution is to re-attempt a course of action that was intended as a stop gap in the first place.
