Hail Amrlyin Palpategwene chandra Send a noteboard - 06/11/2010 02:05:09 AM
If you look at her behavior and thoughts in this book, it's obvious what she wants - to control everything and everyone. She has become a manipulative version of Darth Rand, who only cares about obedience, shows little or no respect to anyone around her, and who is convinced that she has the right to impose her will on everyone because she believes she knows everything. The contrast between her "leadership" style and Rand's in this book is glaring; Rand has become a true leader, showing the utmost respect to those following him, listening to them when they have advice to offer, but remaining firm about things he knows are correct. On the other hand, we have Egwene, who forces her friends to use her title even in private, constantly goes on about how she knows best, plots against those who pose a threat, and wants absolute obedience from everyone.

Hehehe, she could learn from Rand, and she will :D I never understood why does she force friends to use the title even in private? Is she insane?

Egwene has, in effect, become the very thing Nynaeve warned her about after the testing. She has set herself so far above and apart from everyone that she sees everyone as pawns in her own personal game of power. What Nynaeve told her was right, but she didn't hear it and refuses to acknowledge it because behaving that way serves her purpose of making the WT the ruling organization of the world (and her the tyrant, ruling all), that no one dare disobey.

Does she realise how her nature has changed?

There was a reason the Hall could convene without the Amyrlin - if she becomes a tyrant (which she is well on her way to being), they could deliberate about it and try to limit her power. What she did, in effect, was to ensure that no one can move against her - ever - no matter how bad she gets because she can be there to bully them into backing off. There have to be checks on her power, yet she is removing them all. That is a huge problem, as is the fact that she seems to be turning into another Emporer Palpatine. I don't like the Seanchan, and likely never will, but Tuon, at least, has someone at her side who will slap her ass down if she gets out of control. Egwene has nothing of the sort. There is no one to stop her, and she has never been one to question whether she has the right to do what she wants; she just does as she pleases and justifies it in her mind, no matter how deluded she ends up sounding (like her claim that Rand "wants" her to stop him when we see, from his POV, that he wants nothing of the sort and will break the seals no matter what she says).

Um, the other poster said something nice about the effects of this law. I am still in two minds about this. Undue importance and self-delusion have been Egwene's hallmarks since TEotW. Egwene has met the Aiel, the Aes Sedai, and the Tinkers. And still, she behaves the way she does. . As does the ass slapping, birching is long due for this Amrylin, eh? :P I will sacrifice 72 goats if that happens in the next book.
Isn't everyone in WoT re-born?
