for instance, the whole backstories thing when he was planning on going into that one town. It's not the kind of thing he'd done before, and seemed too contrived for purposes of humor.
But overall, yes. Talmanes was the one who drove a lot of the humor in Mat's few chapters in tGS, so he cast Mat in a different light and made him seem off.
