Talmanes was the one who was off in tGS to me too...

I think that B Sand has vastly improved the Mat and Talmanes plot lines in this book. The characters are much closer to the way they used to be, even if things were still a little too funny.
Talmanes in particular was off to me in tGS, so having him be less of a closet sarcastic with an awesome sense of humor felt better.

I didn't think Mat was off really. Mat seemed normal while Talmanes seemed to be made a not-so-straight-straight-man.
Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.
Beckett: Me too.

Mat's character (and Talmanes) *not really any spoilers*

Yeah, either Mat was better, or I got more used to BSand-Mat (probably both).

I never liked Mat until B.Sand wrote him. Now he's one of my faves. *NM*
