Why did the Borderlanders not travel to the borderlands to fight the trollocs they were told were attacking instead of going with Rand to the meeting with Egwene?
I would want to go and defend my homelands and save my people.

I think Rand wants everyone in one place so he can lay down his terms for giving them his life and know that every nation will be bound by whatever agreement they end up making so he took them along.
