And farmers are, of course, treated the same as rebel officers and usurpers and mutineers. Cannoli Send a noteboard - 23/10/2010 03:07:10 PM

and even if being a Darkfriend by itself removes people from the protection of law we know that their standards for being a Darkfriend are none too high.
Prove that. You have only the PoV Trap complaints of characters prejudiced against the Children, when in fact, they are NEVER seen to do this in the books.

To be fair, we know that the questioners tend to take people and torture them until they get a "confession", and then use that as an excuse to execute the victim.

We actually see this from Galad's POV where he is mentally preparing himself for the torture and how he will die without saying he is a darkfriend. If Galad of all people worries about breaking and claiming loyalty to the shadow just to make the pain stop, then what chance does your average innocent farmer or other civilian taken by the questioners have? And ofcourse Galad would be in a better position to know than most given his rank.

There is no question that torturing false confessions out of people is evil, and I hope that Galad will put an end to it now that he himself has realised how meaningless it is as a way of finding out the truth.
