You need to remember how their relationship works. This was elaborated very early on in the series, but I think it's forgotten. Even though Egwene is a bit younger than Rand, he often doesn't far outdistance her in maturity or coming up with ideas, but she generally thinks that she came up with these things first. It's somewhat like the classic relationship between older and younger siblings. So she basically came to see Rands' point of view without meaning to, and did the same thing he had done without much thought. It's less of an issue with character development, and more of an issue of the dynamics underlying their relationship.
