After reading chapter 1, we have a pretty good indication that Rand will be heading to Tar Valon. This means that Gawyn and Rand will have their showdown soon, although we may not see the actual showdown until the final book.
If Rand is truly heading to Tar Valon, then Gawyn will soon be confronted with the decision of whether to kill Rand or stay loyal to Egwene. If Gawyn chooses to kill Rand, then Egwene will be killed in the process.
Here is one of Min's viewing about Gawyn:
"Gawyn kneeling at Egwene's feet with his head bowed, and Gawyn breaking Egwene's neck, first one then the other, as if either could be the future. She had never seen that fluttering back and forth, as though not even the viewing could tell which would be the true future. Worse, she had a feeling near to certainty that it was what she had done this day that had turned Gawyn toward those two possibilities."
Clearly Egwene is going to do something that is going to seriously provoke Gawyn. It will probably have something to do with how she decides to handle Rand. Gawyn will either kneel and bond himself to Egwene or he will break her neck. Since Gawyn put up will all of Elaida's abuse and even attempts to have him 'removed,' Rand is the only thing that could realistically provoke Gawyn to the point of killing Egwene.
Here is one of Egwene's dream about Gawyn:
"Twice, right on top one another, she dreamed of taking Gawyn by the shoulders and trying to turn him to face the other way against his will. Once he brushed her hands away roughly; the other time, she was somehow stronger than he. The two blended together hazily. In another he began swinging a door closed on her, and she knew if that narrowing gap of light vanished, she was dead."
It will be very interesting to see how this Gawyn vs. Rand plot-line plays out. Anyone have any ideas?

Egwene will obviously survive and triumph *sigh*.
The more interesting one is Egwene's dream of:
"She stands at fork in road. Gawyn rides up not seeing her. One road leads to violent death, the other, long life. Down one road they marry, the other, not. Gawyn smiles and chooses."
The Last Battle is almost here, it's time to kill someone other then red shirts. Although I'm 99% certain Egwene saved and the their long life together and married will be the outcome, it'd be much more powerful if the choice was Gawyn die to save Egwene or he lives and she dies.
Gawyn and Elaida are two characters who are idiots, but who I want to see redeem themselves with heroic deaths. Gawyn coming back to the Light - even if it's after another encounter with Rand first, by just hearing about Morgase being alive - or seeing her - and forgiving Rand would be dull.

Gawyn's thread needed to be snipped from the pattern a long time ago. *NM*

Egwene was almost certainly RJ's favorite character. She isn't going to die.

Obviously she won't die, just like the DO won't win the Last Battle

Seriously, if BS somehow "forgot" to write about Gawyn again, would anyone notice?

I would notice and it would cause euphoria (even though he wasn't too bad in TGS) *NM*

Saying 'Gawyn' and 'love' in the same sentence takes a lot of nerve LOL

The "all is forgiven, man" comment from Leigh's review makes me think G will be redeemed.

But what would he do to make all of his stupidity be forgiven in one book?
