The Oath Rod can forcibly control you.
If the Oath Rod could have been administered to AS men in the AoL they could have sworn 'Never to channel the OP as a weapon' OR 'Never to touch the True Source'.
You could only go insane by touching Saidin or continuing to use it.
Between the options of going insane, death, being severed or being forced not to use the OP as a weapon, or not touching the True Source at least the last option allows you to feel the True Source.
It makes you wonder why it was never tried as a possibility to control men who can channel.

They can't resist the urge to channel, but the Oath Rod prevents them doing so, creating a fatal impasse. We saw it with the BA Hunters when they tried to make the Aes Sedai from the Tower in Exile say she was Black: It wasn't true, so she couldn't say it, but they ORDERED her to, and she was compelled to obey as well. So her body and mind did the reasonable thing and proceeded to asphyxiate her.
Honorbound and honored to be Bonded to Mahtaliel Sedai

Right, because they had the physical capacity to resist channeling, at least for a while.
