Bael mentioning the Aiel Waste; characters using words that are too sophisticated or techical

He throws a lot of contemporary military terminology around, particularly in Gareth Bryne's scenes, and worst of all, does it in a way that sounds like pundits or commentators and not the way soldiers talk. People witnessing their very first raken would not smoothly slide terms like "ground forces" or "airborne" into their dialogue!
Also, as intelligent as some of the main characters are, their dialogue and thought process has always been framed as unsophisticated people from simple roots. No matter how incisively they might grasp the nuances of a situation, they still expressed it in direct and simple terms. Not so anymore. It is particularly noticeable with Mat & Nynaeve, since a case could be made that there is a character-based point to doing so with Rand, and at the same time, he seems to have made a deliberate effort to keep Perrin unsophisticated, but is trying too hard.
Most egregiously is his use of the word "one" as a personal pronoun. Almost no one talks like this in WoT, aside from perhaps some pretentious background characters. It comes across all wrong, particularly with Cadsuane, as it gives her speech an affected air that is completely at odds with her characterization as someone who likes to put people off balance with her directness.
I shudder to thing how he's going to handle Elayne's dialogue or thought process, since RJ walked a fine line with her making her come across as both educated and sophisticated and at the same time unaffected. There was always a noticeable difference in her "public speech" voice, her attitude-lecture tone for Mat and people she was pissed at, and her conversational tones with Nynaeve and Egwene and Birgitte and an odd sort of reserved affection when talking with her pseudo-family members like Min or Aviendha or Thom. She had the most complex personas, with Rand and Egwene coming a close second to her, which is one reason I never found ANY chapters from those three boring or tedious.
That has been reduced with Egwene over the last two books, as most of her dialogue has been about putting on a show, but I found her conversations with Gawyn & Siuan off-putting in tGS. It could be simply that she was still in the habits of her captivity, but there is no hint of the normal girl who had a sufficiently close relationship with Siuan and Leane that the former especially sometimes forgets herself and with whom she is speaking. Rand, too, suffered similar lack of distinction in tGS, but that could have been explained by his place in his character arc. In some ways, it might have been better that Sanderson was writing this part, because it made it easier to dismiss Rand as a jerk and see the wrongness, whereas RJ might have either made him too sympathetic and made us too aware of his suffering and engendered a PoV trap. The shift to Dark Rand was not as abrupt as many people seem to think, but I believe the less tempered and more awkward writing style jolted their perceptions of Rand.
I am worried too, that New & Improved Rand will be portrayed too overboard on the laughter and tears front.

Oh, sh**, Moiraine! I never thought about that! The comments about her in tGS suggest you're right

I think this is the type of info that RJ never got around to revealing.

Particularly the way he described sex. It reeked of Mormon discomfort with the topic.

Reeked? Great word. It seemed quite in line with RJ's own dealings with the topic. *NM*

RJ had great sexual humor--he even went a little overboard sometimes IMO

RJ said breasts all the time, but in a more clinical manner - folding arms under breasts, etc
