So LTT's plan failed because he needed something to "touch" the DO to seal him away, and touching the DO with Saidin allowed him to taint Saidin. Well, with a physical "pool" of power that is unconnected to the actual Source itself couldn't the Lightside access and manipulate the power without endangering it? I don't know if it would read in "satisfying" way - having the same answer for cleaning Saidin *and* re-trapping the DO - but it would actually make a lot of sense.
