So, back to my original pondering: post-Last Battle, will there be female Children of the Light? Some amalgamation of the Tinkers and the White Cloaks as a practical, yet peaceful organization?

I don't think so, nor do I think an organization of such women would somehow be practical and peaceful. The CotL has evolved so far from being peaceful that I don't really see them returning to it. Also, their beliefs are rather shaky, based as they are on merely being opposed to a bare sliver of the genetic population and an organization consisting of a fraction of that same sliver. Female CotL are more likely to be like the Dahomey Amazons

But, I still don't really see your point - persuasive men aren't automatically assumed to be evil or male channelers. That's not in the history nor any of the characters' reactions to especially noteworthy men. I'm just not seeing that as a theme :). While many other readers have tried to say the same, esp. about male original sin in WoT, the problem remains that it was a woman that unleashed the Dark One and while the uneducated masses think that the coming of the Dragon is to be feared, I don't think they associate this with the male sex in general. WoT seems to have very solidified sex and gender roles, but this isn't the same thing as reverse sexism - a male is just as likely to berate a female, as a female is to do the same to a male in WoTland.

Their proper name is "Children of the Light." Will there be a discussion on the "Tar Valon Witches"? *NM* - 06/08/2010 12:03:27 PM 228 Views
