Re: The White Tower has all the tools to defeat the Senahcan... Datakim Send a noteboard - 03/08/2010 10:53:38 PM

1) The weave of Air that removes the a'dam: As we saw in tGS, this is an apparently simple weave that takes the damane out of action. The moment they are uncollared, they stop doing everything and just stand around. A shielded AS, on the other hand, isn't going to stop trying to break her shield.

One possibility that occurs to me is that if the AS start uncollaring damane all the time and gain a significant advantage that way, the Seanchan could well adapt and modify the a'dam to make this impossible.

They could for example add somekind of complicated locks to any new a'dam that would be difficult for the AS to "pick" with air in a combat situation. Or they could just melt the two sides of the collar together so that the collar literally cannot be removed at all.

2) Links: The first thing this gives the Aes Sedai is immunity from being shielded by damane. Which means the sul'dam won't be able to collar new AS. Which means the AS will go into battle knowing it is a fight to the death, which means their stupid Oaths won't hold them back one bit.

True. Links are an advantage. Though whether they neutralise the three oaths completely is up for debate I think. Usually we have been shown that the AS have to go deep into combat before they can retaliate, despite knowing that the opposing enemy would certainly kill them if they could. They have to actually place themselves in a situation where they are in danger. Given how easy it is to kill with the OP, that might prove fatal. I have no doubt that Seanchan would quickly realise that they should kill the leader of the link.

Hmm. What happens to the rest of the AS in a circle if the leader dies violently?

Second, the weaves of destruction the AS unleash when linked far exceed what any single Damane can do. Which means their protective weaves are also going to be that much stronger. These are major advantages in any fight, especially if the Aes Sedai are the ones attacking.

Can the AS attack without exposing themselves to danger. If they are the ones in a position to initiate a fight, then obviously the Seanchan don't know they are there yet which means the three oaths kick in.

And while you are right about the greater strength of the weaves, I am unsure if this makes them invulnerable to concentrated attacks from multiple damane. Men cannot link for example but the Asha'man could still mass-attack any barrier a link could create and kill the leader. If this was not the case, the AS would have no reason to be afraid of the asha'man or think they are too powerfull, which we know is what the AS think.

3) Angreal and OP objects: Should the AS use these (and there's no reason why they won't), they increase their strength even more, making them that much more effective against the Damane.

This is true. Though there is no reason why a damane could not use an angreal too. It seems likely that the Seanchan could capture these for themselves from the bodies of dead/captured AS or through raids and balance the scales. Though it is true that this would give the AS a temporary advantage atleast.

The major disadvantage, of course, is that the AS have no real combat experience, unlike the damane. But this can be negated with practice, because the Aes Sedai are not bad with the Power at all. Just not used to applying it to destruction.

The trouble is that the three oaths are a massive disadvantage and I don't think they are as easily countered as you think. Combat skills also develop through experience and time, so it will take them time to learn, during which the Seanchan could be constantly attacking and thinning the AS numbers.

And ofcourse if the struggle happens before the last battle, the shadow would likely be covertly helping the Seanchan side to weaken the AS in prepartion for TG.
