I think you've hit on a great idea! newyorkersedai Send a noteboard - 03/08/2010 12:50:22 AM
Congrats on your return. I just wanted to jot a quick note to tell you that you've added something I hadn't considered before - that Egwene's talents as a Dreamer could be a help to all those captured Aes Sedai.

The brutality inflicted on damane is pretty awful. Surely part of what makes AS break (Pura, Mylen) is that there is simply no respite from imprisonment, torture, and psychological domination. But after Egwene gets a list of the AS who were captured, she might be able to help some of them.

Now, I don't think anyone needs to be pulled into a dream of Egwene's making. She can simply visit those AS, find out where they are currently being held, as well as the strength and layout of any nearby Seanchan forces. Appearing in TAR, being free to wield the power there (I think damane might be able to channel freely in TAR), talking to familiar faces (AS Sitters can join Eggy) - these things could make a real psychological difference.

It could also be used to keep tabs on which AS are really starting to "lose themselves." It can also be used to spread disinformation to the Seanchan forces. Honestly, after enough info has been gathered, Eggy might be able to start tormenting the Seanchan in *their* dreams - like a lightside Moghedien or Lanfear.

This is such a useful and sensical way to exploit Egwene's abilities, I'll almost be disappointed if she doesn't think of it. At the least, it could pose questions about ethics and morality - since the Seanchan aren't actually darkside, Eggy would be pulling some mean mojo on them. What price victory? How far is too far? Several of our heroes have faced their own moments of excessive self-indulgence, or been disappointed by getting carried away in something. Eggy hasn't had many moments to actually do this - at least, not ones that didn't immediately make her think even better about herself =P

Such a turn could also put her in conflict with the Aiel Wise Ones. It might some credibility to WO claim that entering TaR in the flesh can cause you to lose some of your humanity...

Congrats! I just feel bad I hadn't considered it first!
