If I remember right (I think it's in KoD), Teslyn and Joline are ready to fight off the renegade Seanchan that are after Tuon, and one of them feels in danger before the other does, even though they are standing together. And it seems some people have a stricter view of what constitutes a lie than others. Looking at how the Oath is phrased (to speak no word that is not true), it seems that one could rationalize it to the point that as long as they don't make up words, they can say whatever they want.
