Plot-wise I don't see any sensible reason why RJ would rather literally want a physical link between Moridin and SH (and later also Rand), instead of simply having Mordin & SH work together very closely, because they follow the same philosophy.
It makes sense to me. Moridin is Rand's counterpart - whereas the Creator gives Rand free choice to fight the battle, the DO is an "uber-control freak" (author's words) and it seems weird to me that he would have two different agents (SH and Moridin) when power is always more potent when coming from one person.
Even if SH IS a different entity, I would be surprised if Moridin wasn't in some way infested with the DO's presence. It would be completely out of character for the DO to not have a form of direct control over him.
