I don't know what the "most common" theory is. I always thought that Narishma needed to channel though the sword itself to free it from some of the traps (which would effectively prevent the females from freeing it - Rand must be worried about not just female forsaken, but WT Aes Sedai coming in force for it), and that Rand neglected to tell him how difficult it was to control it without burning oneself or acting insanely.
Any male channeler could have freed it in that case
I did not mean that that was the only trap. I think it would be easier for Rand to protect against males because he can see the flows and it's more intuitive. Also when he set the traps the Black Tower did not exist, so there were plenty more female channelers than men, and he needed to also protect against a linked circle.
