Re: As I understand you and Shannow... Shishka Send a noteboard - 21/07/2010 04:34:08 PM
It's maybe not spelled out, but basically already shown in the books that distance is obviously a factor regarding the deaths of Be'lal, Asmo or other Forsaken and their possible transmigrated.

Distance as a factor has not been "proven" in the books, not by a long shot. It's only speculation that it was a factor in Asmo's death. All we know for sure is that "not at SG" is a factor in the DO's ability to catch a soul, and that WHERE was a factor in Asmo's death.

Shannow thinks distance is a factor, but as I noted in the very first sentence I wrote, I think the "not at SG" issue is more complicated than that.

You further indicated that this is also supported by RJ's comment about SG and the DO's powers there. But RJ and BS presicely said that there are certain limits, which they won't reveal yet. Therefore I think it must be something different.

I indicated that "not at SG" is supported by RJ's comments, not that "distance from SG" is supported.

What's left to be revealed is what specifically about Asmo dying "not at SG" contributed to the DO's inability to catch his soul. Maybe it was strictly distance (I doubt it), or maybe it was because the death was in TAR (I also doubt that), or maybe something else (like what I suggested re the Shadow suffering a defeat in Caemlyn). But whatever it is, it is yet to be revealed. There is no difference, in that respect, between "distance", "TAR", or something else.

And if a major defeat of the Shadow would be the "where-factor", then it doesn't play any role when it happened? That means it doesn't play a role that the defeat was just suffered at the end of TFoH, but that the DO would always have a harder time to transmigrate people in Caemlyn, because he simply suffered a defeat there, irrespective how much time has passed? Seems rather unlikely, IMO.

I agree - I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

You even implied that "when" would be a factor (not only how and where), when you stated in your previous reply that Asmo "died in Caemlyn just after the Shadow had suffered a major defeat there (namely, Rand taking control of the city from Rahvin after killing him). I think that also was a factor." [emphasis mine]

Yes, but just because RJ didn't mention "WHEN" doesn't disprove my idea. RJ may have just been thinking that because Asmo died in Caemlyn at the time he did, it was a WHERE issue. Meaning, if he had rather died at the same moment in, say, Mayene, it wouldn't have mattered. So, WHERE is the primary issue, and that's why he mentioned it.
