Misleading prophecies are not exactly unknown in the series. In many cases when a character thinks that prophecy means something, it ends up meaning something else entirely.
That's true, but usually when a character misinterprets something, it's just a brief thought (maybe a paragraph), like when Elaida misinterprets her Foretellings, or when Rand misinterpreted (I assume) that LTT was the person he was to merge with.
In this case, an entire scene was devoted to Min & Cadsuane discussing the prophecy, which I think makes it far more likely to be the correct interpretation.
That being said, I agree that Callandor is the most likely suspect for the blade. Though I still maintain the small chance that it might mean Rands anti-dark weave that he used to sever Ishamael and Asmodean from the DO. That was called a "blade of light" too.
A small chance, agreed.
I still don't see why it would have to be 1 man and 2 women. I think any link would do including 2 men and 1 women with Rand in control. If this is true then Callandor could be used safely while Rand was still doing the channeling.
If, in the scenario you described, Rand was the one channeling through Callandor, then I'm not sure the circle would protect him. But if the other man were, say, Narishma, and Narishma held Callandor while Rand lead the circle and channeled through him, that should be "safe", I would think. I don't know ... I guess there's something about the lack of buffer that makes it necessary for a woman to lead the link. Still, it wouldn't have to be 2 women and 1 man. 3 women and 1 man would be OK, or any other circle that a woman could lead. *shrugs*
I vaguely recall theories that suggest that callandor could be used to "overdraw" on OP allowing for a humongous amount of power to be wielded at the cost of the life of the channeler. We know overchanneling like this is possible. Though personally I doubt this is what the lack of buffer means because if raw power truly was the answer then the CK would have been the answer.
I doubt it, for the exact same reason. I don't think raw power is going to be the key issue, here.
As a sidenote, RJ said that Callandor is flawed because of a manufacturing error. That error could of course have been "arranged" by the pattern as you suggest.
Yeah, that's what I meant. I was aware of what RJ said about Callandor.
It is possible that when RJ said that angreals would not amplify the TP, he was speaking generally and Callandors flaw makes it a unique and special case.
Maybe, but then you would think he'd have said something like "in most cases, angreals cannot be used with the TP", rather than provide a blanket answer that doesn't appear to allow for exceptions.
I too agree that this option is the most likely one. Min's firefly vision and the colour-visions also suggest that it is extremely important for the three of them to be together.
Yep.
As for how Callandor is related, maybe justs by channeling. Maybe Rand will wield Callandor alone, while Mat and Perrin stand beside him.
Yeah, it's possible that callandor doesn't actually unite the 3, but rather Rand using is the trigger of, or the immediate precursor to, the unification, and that's why the two events are linked in one prophecy.
Still, my gut tells me that callandor is somehow necessary for the 3 to be 1. In other words, the 3 cannot truly be 1, to satisfy this prophecy, until Rand uses callandor in a way that somehow unites them in a way they couldn't have united without callandor.
We know that it CAN be used alone since Rand has already done so. And infact now that the taint is gone, it will no longer cause the mental instability that it used to. And with LTT's full memories and skills I figure Rand should be able to use it alone with reasonable safety.
I agree that Rand can (and likely will) use it alone. The question in my mind is how that usage will unite the 3.
Maybe Rand will use Callandor to do something while the ta'veren thing does something else. And those things together seal the DO away.
Yeah, I guess it could be that simple. Or maybe callandor can be used to amplify the ta'veren affect, which is crucial in defeating the Shadow? I don't see how, but that would at least fit with what I'm thinking.

Another major longshot: 3 = the OP, TP, and Mordeth's power. No clue how they would become one. *NM*
