That's a real shame about the audio books. I don't buy them, but I wouldn't want them to be so unsatisfying. And I don't get why they would use one male for all the voices in the series - unless that guy was Christopher Walken.
You normally just have the one actor reading the book. I hate when they try to do different voices for the characters though. I have heard a few audiobooks where they do different actors for different characters, and that can work but can also be distracting.
