We completely disagree about "greatness". For you it's all about deeds, and for me it's even more about who the person is.
Indeed. People are here to help society. I agree with the AOL way of rewarding people.
Which you confuse with greatness, IMO.
Beside, let's get real:
- Rand survived Be'lal because Moiraine killed him for Rand.
- Rand survived Sammael because Moridin interferred
- Rand survived Rahvin because Nynaeve distracted him
Never trust legends...
Beside, let's get real:
- Rand survived Be'lal because Moiraine killed him for Rand.

That's all true.
How does that differ from being obscure, exactlty? You think the hordes of anonymous scientists working in the top facilities in the world right now aren't obscure to anyone but the people in their field?
They are, but what is your point with them then? It's clear you consider this to be a unsatisfactory thing. By stating that Mierin was never more than an obscure scientist, what are you implying about people who elude fame and accolades?
Evil didn't work upon her, she went to the Shadow on her own. RJ was extremely specific about this. He didn't want people to feel sorry for Lanfear, or make apologies for her flaws and her bad choices.
RJ said he didn't want people to think that she was turned against her will. That was the exact precursor to the question, which is why she was said to be ripe for the Shadow. Evil worked on everybody - it says so directly in the Guide, and that's what led to the Collapse.
What does that have to do with anything? I wasn't saying Lanfear is the worst of the Forsaken, I was speaking of her narcissism.
You said she was self-serving even by Forsaken standards. I find that untrue. They are all equally morally depraved. Lanfear has nothing on any of them.
I don't see how saying she was no worse than the other 12 makes her a better woman anyway.
Me too, which is why I never claimed it.
The fact speak for themselves.
No they don't. I'm involved in science and research. Everyone takes precautions for everything, but that still doesn't mean that you expect the entire world to be destroyed each time you conduct an experiment. The drilling must have been a huge shock to everyone.
You can keep your delusion it was a perfectly reasonable scientific venture if you want to. The facts remain they didn't know what they were doing and it went terribly wrong, and obviously they did nothing to repair their mistake, didn't understand how dangerous what they had done was, or what they attempted didn't work. Over a century later, the top Aes Sedai of the Age were still at loss on how to deal with it. Posae wanted to shield the area until a permanent solution could be found.
So how do you decide what a reasonable scientific venture is? Should Nynaeve not have tried to Heal stilling, or should people have not tried to power ter'angreal.
Beside, this all came from a hubristic thirst for more power, that the Age didn't need. With the Bore, Jordan created a metaphor for hubristic science.
Or men and women wanted a power they could both share and enjoy together. There's no reason to look at the negative side just because the results were poor.
'Hubristic science' is a vague term propagated by those who are unwilling to create logical boundaries for experimentation, who demand the most from science but expect it to work with nothing. It would be hypocritical if it came from a physicist, though I've never seen an indication from him that he considered the Drilling in this light. Sure, maybe BP did cause a massive ecological disaster, but the same critics don't care where their gasoline comes from, and are the first in line to burn down the Senate when their gas pumps are empty.
