Naturally when you mentioned Mieren the entire board's brain goes straight to her OP strength, which you've gone on and on about over the years.
The entire board, or darius sedai? Who else is the entire board... Cannoli?
The very fact that you'd even postulate that such an obviously flawed individual could have been a "candidate" for this "job" implies that surface beauty and OP strength are the reason you would put her forward. If accomplishment is what makes someone a "candidate" then LPD or Graendal would have both been far more ideal candidates for the Dragon's Mate than an obscure researcher who hadn't even managed to earn a 3rd name.
I put her forward because she was born with everything, which is the point I was making. The fact that she wasted it all is something that I mentioned even in the original post.
I will never understand why you feel this need to romanticize any of the Forsaken! There is absolutely nothing in the text or in RJs comments to lead us to believe that Lanfear was ever anything but a selfish child. What little we know of her prior to the Bore points this out. It's clear that she is a massively flawed individual whose "mere susceptibility" to the DO took her to a level of evil only a handful of others could achieve. We have never seen a single thing that even approaches a redeemable quality in any of the Forsaken!
You mean a level of evil that 50% of AS could achieve. The fact that she survived was only because of her gifts. Lanfear isn't more evil than Galina or Alviarin, but they would have no chance against people like her. That was the whole way the Shadow worked.
You want evidence... how about the fact that LTT dated her. You've got long explanations on how good LTT was and how evil Mierin was, but you never reconcile the two. It's like I tell you that Rand is dating Sevanna but you have no problem with that statement and continue to write statements about how good Rand is and how evil Sevanna is. Clearly Mierin had redeeming qualities to the point that LTT wanted a relationship with her. Secondly, her own Dashain said that she wasn't always bad, and he served her personally.
But before you get into that habit of misinterpreting me, let me say that I'm not trying to prove that Mierin was a good person. I merely think that she wasn't always the evil woman we see in the 3rd Age now, and there's evidence for it.
Lanfear wasn't "seduced", she (like the rest) leaped at a chance to gain more personal power and reveled in the fear they inspired. What you are suggesting is as silly as saying "if you ignore the 30-odd people he slaughtered without remorse, Ted Bundy was a normal guy". I'd be willing to bet that there are some dead kitties and puppies in Lanfears childhood.
Ah okay, well then there's really nothing to discuss here, though I do find your view on people rather tragic. People make bad choices all the time that condemn them, and good ones that redeem them. You clearly think that people are born good or evil and stay that way.
