When Asmo opens the door, he obviously doesn't already see his killer. He needs to take one step into the room/corridor, and then suddenly he is confronted by his killer. This indicates an appearance out of thin air.
If Slayer had the general order to kill Asmo, because a Forsaken wanted Asmo dead, and by chance Slayer found Asmo in the empty palace, he took this super opportunity & finished him.
