Re: Regarding her shield Datakim Send a noteboard - 21/05/2010 05:58:49 PM

1. The shield allowed a small amount of saidin through. Usually when strong channelers break shields they pull on the True Source through the shield and the shield bends until it breaks. By allowing some saidin through, the shield probably doesn't bend.

This shield is pretty unique is it not? I mean we have never seen any other examples of this kind of "partial" shield in the series. Makes me wonder if this shield operates completely differently from the standard version. It is also of some interest that Lanfear(AoLer) calls this a "shield", but when Rand is captured and shielded LTT(AoLer) refers to the Aes Sedai shield as a "buffer". Semirhage too refers to this kind of shield as a "buffer" when she is torturing that AS. I admit that probably means nothing but then again...

2. She knew he was a Forsaken, so she would have put all her skill into the knots, making them as complex as she could. We've already seen that Moghedien's were very complex, so Lanfear must have really put some effort into it, because we saw at least one occasion where Asmodean tried to test it.

3. Shield-breaking is a skill which Lanfear claims Asmodean doesn't have. Osan'gar claims that he can break any shield with time, and Lews Therin makes similar claims.

Lanfear also says that "Asmodean was never very good at breaking through a shield. You must be willing to accept pain, and he never could"

And yet when LTT unravels the knots of the AS shield at Dumais wells, there is no sign that the experience is in any way painfull to Rand. I wonder if this is another clue that what Lanfear did was something completely different?

Moghedien also seems to have had this skill, which makes sense since she is more skilled than Asmo - 21/05/2010 05:27:43 PM 371 Views
Is Mogs more skilled than Asmo or was it Nyn being less skilled than Lanfear? - 21/05/2010 06:32:47 PM 376 Views
I think Moghedien is very skilled but lacks the motivation or desire to be openly aggressive - 21/05/2010 09:24:40 PM 338 Views
