Can using a Terangreal be sensed? If i use the BF rod, can it be sensed? If yes, how is it sensed? by men? by women? by both? how by both???
It seems that some Ter'angreal can be sensed and some cannot.
Mat for example has a Ter'angreal that blocks direct incoming weaves. However when it does, the people who are blocked have no idea what happened. That means that there is nothing there to see, nothing to sense. The Ter'angreal must use power in some way, but obviously not by throwing around weaves of OP that could be sensed.
However I recall a scene where Elayne,Nynaeve,Aviendha and the rest use the Bowl of Winds(thats what it was called right?) to fix the weather. In that particular example, the bowl is activated by saidar, but after its active it then begins to draw power itself on a much larger scale and powerlevel than the circle of 13 using it. And the Bowl does actually start weaving, and the AS can see the weaves as though the Bowl was simply another channeler channeling.
also, do Terangreal use either the male or female half or both? Or can each be possible?
To go back to the explanation above, the Bowl uses both halves, even though it was activated only by women. The women can only see the saidar weaves ofcourse, but it is well described how the pillar of saidar weaves bends around something invisible that makes the pillar whole, something the AS cannot see. It is clear to us and to the characters in the book, that it was bending around saidin, which made the weaving whole.
So yes, Ter'angreal can be designed to use both male and female half. And I strongly suspect that the Bowl could have just as easily activated by a man.
And while I cannot give an example of the top of my head, I would say that there are also ter'angreal that only work for males and only draw upon saidin. And ter'angreal that only work for females and only draw upon saidar. And probably combinations too such as a ter'angrela activated by a woman who only channels saidin.
also, if the latter is the case, is making different terangreal dependant upon it being made with either half, or both together
Unknown. There is likely some truth to the idea that the best ter'angreal require males and females working together.
It is not compulsory though. We know as you say that Elayne alone can create ter'angreal, even if they are a bit poorly made. And in TGS we have a scene where Rand thinks of a male AS who was apparently a master craftsman when it came to ter'angreal, creating some of the most intricate ones LTT had ever seen.
we know Elayne makes terangreal with the female half. maybe the dream rings are weak b/c they should be made in conjunction with the male half?
Maybe. Though I would speculate that in this particular case Elaynes lack of experience, skill and training are more likely culprits. She is basically working by instinct with nothing to guide her. Frankly its surprising she did as good a job as she did.
I also suspect that the dream-rings are pretty simple ter'angreal since an utter novice can construct them (even if poor ones), and as such likely could be made to work perfectly by even a single channeler who knew what he or she was doing (such as the male AS I mentioned above).
THE OP
if a man and woman link, what is being channeled by the lead person? can they channel either half or can they channel both?
We know that they can apparently channel both. Rand does this at the cleansing. He first channels saidar to create the conduit, and then he channels saidin and pulls it through the conduit into Shadar Logoth.
I think he also does both simultaneously, I don't have time to check right now sorry, but I seem to recall a scene where he both strengtens the saidar conduit, while simultaneously pulling more saidin through it.
Now I don't exactly know the whole thing works beyond that. There are questions we don't really have answers to.
For example, if the two halves are so different that one side simply cannot teach anything to the other, how could Rand or for that matter any channeler channel the opposite power and do anything at all? Okay, maybe Rand could because LTT was trained even in the use of Saidar and Rand drew upon that knowledge, but what about the others who have no such luxury. How did Elza use the saidin from callandor so effectively?
Another question is, do you have to channel the opposite side, or can you use the opposite power to amplify your own strength. So if a weak saidar channeler linked with a very strong saidin channeler, could she then channel exceptionally strong weaves of saidar, or would she be limited to weak saidar weaves and strong saidin weaves. Bad example actually since in link of two the man has to lead but you get the idea.
If someone else knows the answer to these questions, feel free to jump in.
if they can channel both halves at once, we may see a further advance in healing. What if Nyneave channels both to try to heal Rand? Maybe this can even heal death?
I very much doubt it can heal death. There may be other ways around death such as balefire or bringing a dead Rand back the way Birgitte was brought back since Rand is presumably one of the Heroes and will appear in the world of dreams after his death. But actually using the OP to reverse true death? I seriously doubt that.
Though I do speculate that using both saidin and saidar together may be the key to healing the unhealable wounds on Rand's side.
The shadow wound atleast was created by Ishamael when he struck Rand using the True Power, the DO's power. The TP has no sides so it is in itself whole. Whereas OP has two sides and is only whole when they are used together.
So basically if TP is 1 and Saidin is 0.5 and Saidar is 0.5. Then trying to use only saidar to heal the TP wound is pointless. 0.5 is less than 1. But perhaps 0.5+0.5=1 could counter the 1 of TP. Just a thought there, no proof for that. But it has made me wonder if Flinn and Nynaeve worked together, maybe they could help Rand.
