I appreciate your points, but they're far afield of what I suggested.
It doesn't really matter if LTT sang. It's no big deal. LTT was prolly a successful over-achiever, so he would've had lots of responsibilities since 17+? His time had better uses. And really, who wants to speculate about LTT way before the Shadow?...
In the Rhuidean flashbacks the Aiel speak of having Aes Sedai travel with them and of Aes Sedai healing arthritis. Remember, their title was "servant of all".
The AS were the Servants, but the Aiel were *their* servants.
Also, the Song the Aiel sing outside the gate IMO is just a standard Seed Song. The Aiel sing it to remind him of how the world was before the breaking when the power was used to creating rather than destroying and of the peace that the Aiel stood for and the Aes Sedai helped to foster.
Additionally. I can't help but notice how often on forums people throw in whole new ideas (like the thought that there are many songs) on a single line that does NOT say that just possibly makes more sense if that were the case.
It's ok, I guess. Actually, I was happy someone reminded me that there must've been many Songs that Aiel sang. Where there's one song, there's another, right?
Maybe they didn't sing that Song to save the citizens, but surely they were trying to remind him of better times. I never thought the Song nullified the OP; it just distracted the AS from using it to somehow kill people running. And the Song sure couldn't cure insanity, as those Aiel got killed by the crazy AS anyway.
Still, wouldn't it be great historical cruelty if the Tinkers are searching for a song that's beautiful and mesmerizes listeners, but DOESN'T cause crops to grow quickly or blight-free? The way history gets twisted - something RJ loves to highlight - it's quite possible.
For my part, I just never understood why board members think there was no special Anti-Shadow song that protected the land, and life (plants). I never understood why they felt that the AoL scene from TSR wasn't connected to the song we learn the Tuathaan seek in the first book. Note that the Song was also mentioned again, also in TSR, featured in the Two Rivers Tinkers...
I simply assumed that the Song Rand experiences is the same as the Song that Raen is searching for, as Seeker. It seems intuitively obv- oh never mind...
