I always thought at the end, it would click over to another age, and age without the knowledge of the One Power.

perhaps, the funeral bier indicates an Arthurian type ending. magic will retreat to the isle of Avalon, err Tar'Valon. where a 1/2 dead king will sleep until needed again. :p

on the other hand. i think that is basically the end of the first age. The end of the second age would be in our near future or Armageddon. By this thinking I doubt that it would happen the same. I think this age will end in an advancement in tech and the power, the reverse of the breaking where tech and the power were lost. The AoL was full of pride and arrogance, it could be seen that the DO was the manifestation of peoples festering "sin". whereas this age seems to be gearing toward fixing those failings. men and women working together and the DR breaking all people of their pride and bringing them into submission to the greater good. It seems more like the series is heading toward a massive revolutionary type climax.
