His vocal cadence was the same as Adam West in the 1960s BATMAN TV series (with a bit of Shatner added in), and his odd, stilted performance was wholly true to the character (who in the comics is considerably more screwed up than in the film, as I understand it). He was also giving us a bit of the crazy-insane performance he was initially famous for (in films like Raising Arizona) before he went mainstream and started phoning it in. In fact, I think before KICK-ASS the last film I saw him in that I actually enjoyed was FACE/OFF, which was like thirteen years ago now.
Overall the movie was absolutely superb, one of the best 'superhero' films I've seen. The only problem I had with it is that it betrays its own premise towards the end, with the first two-thirds developing as a realistic take on what would happen if someone tried to become a vigilante hero for real (i.e. they get beaten up, a lot)and the last third throwing this out of the window in favour of absolute barking insanity. But it's all relentlessly entertaining, so I guess I can forgive it for that.

Yes. It is amazing what a semi-happy crazy nuts insane rocked violence ending will do.
