You will apparently be surprised to learn that there is very little actual science regarding the effects of marijuana.
Because it is a controlled substance in the US, it is very difficult for scientists to use it in tests. This is part of the reason that medical marijuana is still so contentious. No one can do large scale testing of effectiveness. Strangely it is easier to extensive testing on drugs created by pharmaceutical companies with who knows what side effects than it is to do controlled marijuana testing.
