I had myself thinking that Smokey couldn't cross water. Why? The Temple had a moat. He asked Sawyer to recon when we know he could've gone all scarab/thunder/dinorawr on it. The island is an island, duh, and he could've smoke-trained off of it if water weren't an issue.
Maybe it was just a loyalty test for Sawyer and UnLocke could have easily gone himself, but couldn't leave the group for long at this point. Who else, if not him, could be responsible for all the dead people over there?
I think he is fine with water. Unless it's an ocean around him
Also, since when is driving a Submarine so much easier than a plane? Is Sawyer really thinking he can keep the active crew hostage and hijack it? Or that he and Kate can man it on their own?
Yeah that struck me as a little odd too.
