Best actress in a leading role:
Sandra Bullock. That's a bit of a surprise, she has not exactly been known for very deep roles. Too bad it's a football film.
How is it a surprise? She was the heavily favored one to win given all her other awards for the role this awards season. It would have been a surprise if she had not won.
Best film:
The hurt locker! Quite the surprise, but definitely worthy!
And this leads me to believe you have not been following any news of late. Going into the Oscars, 'The Hurt Locker' was given at least a 50-50 chance of winning. It would not have been a surprise if Avatar or The Hurt Locker had won. Also, I don't like your derisive comment that it's too bad its a football film. Say what? It's not about football. It's about the humans involved. Just like The Hurt Locker was not truly about the Iraq War. It was about war in general. About humanity.
Yep, I don't really care for "official" predictions or "news" in the days and weeks before. They have been terribly wrong in the past, ask Mickey Rourke. I didn't expect HL to do so well, but I am pretty happy for them, just as I would have been for Avatar.
The theme of Bullock's film may not be about football, but it still doesn't look like something I'd enjoy because of that topic playing a big role.
Perhaps you should give it a chance. You might be pleasantly surprised. Great films transcend individual settings. The story itself is more about family, inclusion, love, hope, etc than it is a film about football.
Sure, one day when it's on TV. But I won't go out of my way to check it out.

Agreed. I had previously passed it off as just another war film. *NM*

For an entertainment admin, you sure are narrow-minded about some quality films out there.
