But now....I don't know. When I watch standard-def material, I find myself paying attention to the "imperfections". I note the pixelation, the fuzziness, the uneven darks, etc.
What about CGI and other special effects in hi-def? I have a very good (re: annoyingly good) eye for spotting those as it, I'm sort of concerned that hi-def would just cause it to irritate me even more when I notice it.
At least, for good CGI. Wall-E? Beowulf? Final Fantasy? Resident Evil: Degeneration? These are absolutely awesome in Blu-Ray. The CGI simply shines. Beowulf, Wall-E and Final Fantasy are straight-up jaw-dropping. RAMBO (the most recent) is also great for the CGI that's in it. Seeing people blow-apart in Blu-Ray level quality is really something.
Others like the Underworld series, as well as the HP series, are pretty good as well (w/ Potter, not so great in early movies and getting better in the later movies). While the CGI doesn't hold up to those above, it's blends near perfectly with the movie and does not distract.
Then there are movies like 300....either via design, or poor upgrade to BluRay, you just don't see the clarity you would expect. It's still great and an upgrade from standard-def however, and the specific CGI stuff (the crazy monster characters for example) looks really good, just not as clear as a Wall-E. I think with 300 it's by design, as they went for that gritty, off-colored type of look and feel.
I just watched a little bit of Terminator-2 at a friends the other day. The CGI work on the female terminator was near flawless....completely appeared to be seamless with the actress. I was a bit surprised. That tied in with the "too clear" effect (which as noted I'm getting used to now), and it was really something to see.
The point being, not all Blu-Ray's are equal of course. Some have been given a lot more attention than others. But for the most part, of the ones I do own, the CGI tends to really shine the most.
I would slave, to pave the way, to sink your ship of fools.

Standard 32" and couldn't care less about plasma or blu-ray. Might upgrade in a few years.
