I was thinking about this during lunch here at work.
So far is everyone's life better (or at least not worse) in Sideways world (alternate realtiy where the plane never crashed)?
Hurley is rich & lucky. He's not mentaly bothered by such.
Locke is in love and relatively at peace with being paralized.
Kate, although still avoiding the law, is running around.
Boone is...well still alive. So are a whole lot of other people.
Rose still has cancer and I think that she's still married to Bernard (she had a wedding band on). Her cancer is back...so the Island didn't help and instead life is taking its natural course.
Sun & Jin are still together...althrough their little airport issue is kind of a drag. I'm not sure how to classify this. Without the island, their daughter (Ji Keon?) wouldn't exist.
Jack's father is still dead, but he didn't appear to be nearly as damaged as before he got to the island.
What my question really is. Is anyone's life worse for not being on the island? We've seen two Others now who are running around (Ben & Ethan)....we can presume that there are more still out there. Has not going to the island produced anything negative? Negative as defined as something that wouldn't have happened anyways (cancer, infertility, etc)

Charlie? Maybe? Hard to say this early on. But being arrested for drug possession was a definite negative deviation. It could still play out equally though if he gets his rehab anyway and ends up on some celebreality show, which revives interest in Driveshaft.

I found the episode to be pretty exciting, but mostly because it was Smokey's POV. *NM*
