And this movie was much better than I thought it would be.
Agreed. It kind of surprised me, actually. I was expecting to see Liar Liar, except with "yes," and in a sense, I did. The humor was exactly the same, cut and pasted. Guy has to say yes, and has a slew of awkward situations, blah blah blah. I really didn't think it was that funny. I did enjoy the relationship (and characters in general) more, though. I never really cared for Carey and his family in Liar Liar. He had a more or less estranged wife, and a kid who did nothing other than show up to provide guilt at the appropriate moments. Carey as a family man beset by some strange, magical truth spell didn't do much for me. I liked his character in Yes Man a lot more. Carl Allen's quirky, off beat relationship with Alison fit Carey much better, I thought.
Anyway, I really did end up liking the movie, for the reasons above. I just didn't think it was very funny.
I felt the same way when I finally watched it on satellite at my parent's house. Didn't find the film all that hilarious but enjoyed the relationship between him and Alison.
