For some reason I forgot about worldwide renevue and was only thinking about hitting 550 Demestic, lol. Seriously though, that amount of cash is insane. The only thing that makes it worse is that he pulled it off, and as someone below said, he could basically make anymovie he wants now with any budget and he is likely to get approval.
Heh, I wondered about that. I noticed the domestic gross number after I responded to your post. Anyway, even if it WAS just recouping costs right now, that's still not bad, to be honest. There are movies that don't even break even in theaters, but still make money for the studios because of DVD sales. Any sort of profit from ticket sales makes for a pretty good film, as I understand it.
...also, the person who said that below was me.

Serious comment, or an exaggerated joke about Avatar's ridiculous budget?

Didn't he also shell out a hundred mil or more for advertising? Was that included in the amount? *NM*

From my understanding about a third of its cost was also marketing. *NM*

Especially with so many people seeing it in IMAX. Those tickets generally cost $5 or so more. *NM*

Worth seeing on the big screen. Just don't expect Citizen Kane. *NM*

No. It's not good at all. It's an 'experience'. That aside it's distinctly average. *NM*
