Cast:
Jim Carrey - Carl Allen
Zooey Deschanel - Alison
Rhys Darby - Norman
John Michael Higgins - Nick

Plot: A guy challenges himself to say "yes" to everything for an entire year.

You've seen this one before ... Jim Carrey plays a man who's life is in turmoil due to some over exaggerated flaw in his character, (lying in Liar Liar for instance). Then the writers take his character and thrust it into an almost make-believe situation. (Can't lie for one day, literal power of God in Bruce Almighty). Through his experiences, he remakes his life and everything is happy ever after with the female lead.

I guess we can go home now ... or not!

The truth is, this movie is HILARIOUS. It blows it's aforementioned predecessors out of the water, managing to avoid the over-sappiness of Liar Liar or the stale, repetitive feeling of Bruce Almighty, despite being an ultra predictable rom-com.

Jim Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a man whose life is made utterly boring by his insistence on saying no to every invitation he gets. After missing his best friend Nick's (Higgins) engagement party, he agrees to go to a 'Yes-Man' seminar. He leaves this seminar with the intention to say yes to every single offer thrown his way, be it to drive a hobo to a park or try out a penis enlargement program linked through his e-mail. Yes is his word. Shortly after the charades begin, he meets free-spirited Allison (Deschanel), but saying Yes to everything does have it's consequences ...

It's as predictable as it sounds, but don't sell it short. This movie delivers on the laughs more so than most comedies of the past decade, you may even find yourself wheezing a bit. Jim Carrey is at his best working within this ridiculous story; Zooey Deschanel is charming and fun to watch and downright lovable as the female lead; the kiwi Rhys Darby is hilarious as the manager of Carl Allen's bank.

Obviously the plot is a little ridiculous, but like other movies mentioned in this review, you go in knowing there's a level of make-believe, knowing that the ridiculousness is part of the idea, part of the presentation. The difference between this movie and other movies of similar genre, is that this movie does it better. Truly enjoyable and worth seeing.

8 out of 10 stars.
