That and plenty cheese-factor. The characters on the other 2 shows just didn't act like people, didn't display any real emotion (almost as if the actors didn't know how to act). Whereas SGU the characters truly do show emotion. Anger, sadness, despair. Even love. But that stuff was practically non-existent on SG1 and SGA.
You seem to like it more because of that, while I'm relatively neutral on the whole love/emotion stuff. There is plenty of emotional display on SG1 (haven't watched most SGA), but there is also a fun, interactive cheesiness between the characters while they explore and make historical connections. SGU is still too serious for that. Doesn't make me dislike it, but it does make it a little too typical drama show for me. At the moment. I don't need it to be funny, but I also don't need another "who is screwing whom and who is angry about that" show.
Stargate Universe: Anyone still watching?

It's no BSG replacement for me, but I enjoy it more than SG-1/Atlantis. *NM*

Yes, though it needs some better stories. Though, as you say, Time was good.

I still like it. Can't really say I love it, but it's been interesting enough.
