I think the same thing. I think that he may have started out power hungry but at some point he changed. He uses people for certain but I think that part of him cares about them. Otherwise he wouldn't have gone back to avenge Jeremy's death. People with powers are everywhere and he didn't need that particular one any more than the rest. He's undeniably manipulative and yet he may really want to protect people. Though yesterdays episode did clear up why he wants Sylar. Sylar is very powerful and would magnify his powers exponentially. I really dislike Sylar and had a lot of trouble with the carnival recruiting him.
