I came across this article in the Guardian, and I thought others might want to read it. It is a semi-rant on Hollywood going safe by making any number of identical movies.

Driving movies. The first Fast and the Furious sucked balls and it got three sequels, plus copy cat rip offs (Torque).

Movies based on TV shows. Hogan's Heroes, Miami Vice, Starsky and Hutch, Dukes of Hazard....all of them sucked. The only movies based on TV shows that haven't sucked recently have been Star Trek (which transitioned to movies nicely) and Get Smart. I think that is because they kept the essence of the show, where the previous examples pretty changed in mood and tone.

The article was spot on with gore-for-gore's-sake films. And I would love to see more Team America style movies. The only problem with the a Team America style movie is that, unless it is done with Trey Parker and Matt Stone's brilliant combination of low-brow humor and subtle subliminal messaging, it will bomb.

And I have never enjoyed a remake of a Japanese Horror Film. The Japanese versions are ALWAYS better. I think because the remakes always leave out something that made the original so interesting.

Somethings I want to see more of or actually see in movies:

A movie based on a short story that actually follows the short story or at least follows it enough to have the same impact. Example, I am Legend. The movie could have gone down as one of the all time great movies. It started out fantastic. Will Smith was more than excellent (as always). But half way through, it decided to chuck what made the short story so great.

More Kevin Smith movies. The only movie of his that I don't thoroughly enjoy is Jersey Girl.

Movies not afraid to have some length. Lord of the Rings was good, and PJ was not opposed to have quite a bit of length. True, almost 40 minutes was cut from each film, but the theatrical releases were still really good AND he made up for it by releasing the extended editions. The Harry Potter movies were great when they last more than 2.5 hours, but the last two have been kind of a let down because Yates HAS to make a 'tighter' movie.

A Farscape movie. Seriously, this show just oozes big screen potential. Plus it has the added benefit of Jim Henson's Company on the big screen.

A Dragon Rider's of Pern movie. Seriously, Dragonheart proved you could have a good movie with a believable dragon on screen. Bring me some Pern already.

And Finally, I want to see some more 'adult' animation. 9 was fantastic and not really a kids movie. It's themes and style was a bit more grown up. I might be the only person in the world who enjoyed Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, but I figured out 30 seconds into it that it wasn't a Final Fantasy movie and watched it in that light. Bring me some anime style western animation. I would love to see films inspired by Ghost in the Shell and Perfect Blue (2 of the best anime movies I have seen.)

EDIT: Something else that annoys me are multiple re-releases with added footage everytime. Star Wars comes to mind. re-released in theaters with added footage, which was fine (except for Greedo shooting), then after Ep. 2 was cast, it was re-released on DVD with Hayden Christianson in RotJ(also Luke's scream at the end of Empire when he falls was edited BACK out after being put in back in '97). And just how many different versions of Blade Runner are there?
Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.

Beckett: Me too.

~When Castle and Beckett met Gene Simmons.
