Seems rather silly to me.

It is silly, but maybe not the way they intended it to be. I'm not sure whether I'm a typical female fan of the sci-fi/fantasy, but I can't stand all the relationship drama. I want to see "men (and women) fixing things." So it's not the females' fault that they're ruining the station in an effort to make more money. I don't think they're hitting the mark, and I was one of the first people to tell them (survey) that I thought "Syfy" was ridiculous.
They did have to enter the 21st century, which meant they were always going to have to include women and homosexuality, but that doesn't mean we want drama and whiny relationships in our TV. I think part of the reason I love Stargate SG-1 is that even though there is love stuff, it's not the main story (even Daniel's wife is used as a device to get us to other planets and into more action, etc).
Science Fiction is only for men and Women ruins it!

The first problem with this argument is that SF was invented by a woman.

Agree. The article seemed more a jab at SciFi / SyFy than pertinent to anything else.
