The Machinist is a 2004 movie written by Scott Kosar and directed by Brad Anderson.
It stars Christian Bale as a man with insomnia so severe that he hasn't really slept in a year. Because of this lack of sleep, his physical and mental health are rapidly deteriorating.
Odd things begin to happen, which only fuels his paranoia. To say much more about the plot would be saying too much.
The main point of this post is actually Christian Bale's appearance in this movie. Holy crap!!
To show the ravages of the insomnia, Christian Bale apparently lost around 60 pounds to play the role...I think I read he was about 120 pounds when the movie was shot. I couldn't believe it was actually him. I was sure CGI stuff was going on to make him look much thinner than he was. But nope...he was really that freaking skinny.
I read that he literally starved himself for the role. Now that's dedication!
Has anyone else seen this movie? What did you think?

However, he's done that to his body quite a few times (bulked up for both Batmans, slimming way way down for Werner Herzog's Rescue Dawn between those). And that is incredible, but it's so hard on his (beautiful) body. And that (body/face/intensity) should not be messed with

Not my favorite of his movies, though. Not too bad, but American Psycho is just better

when you see only the darkness, know the light will soon return
