Thoughts? Good movie, bad movie, or meh movie?
I liked it, and thought it had the best characterization of the three new version movies. It felt more like an actual Star Trek story, instead of a Star Trek homage as one might better describe the two prior films. When it comes to screenwriting Simon Pegg > JJ Abrams, any day, and I'm really starting to think Justin Lin > Abrams as a director. IMO, the plot holes were less obvious than in the prior ones, where spectacle seemed to count more than story coherence (think of the dramatic announcement of Khan's identity, which was clearly playing to the audience, rather than Kirk & Spock, to whom that name should have meant nothing).
On the other hand, my brother was unimpressed, and thought it less exciting, with the action scenes failing to engage him. So, I guess it depends what you'd be looking for.

I agree with pretty much everything Cannoli said except for the plot hole part
