I took it as you had seen the movie and thought it was so utterly horrid you were asking what was the matter with "us" (meaning the general public) for the thing being as popular as it is.

I meant it in a kind of "Aha! Caught you looking!" kind of way. In hindsight, I can see that your guess is the more naturally intuitive interpretation.
