Just as a note to explain my rating system, which often has popcorn movies with higher ratings than arthouse films:
On a certain level I know that a film like "12 years a slave" is the more important, more cinematically challenging movie. I can appreciate that. Without feeling the need to ever see it again after the first time.
While, in comparison, I left the movie theater with a big grin last Thursday, being pretty sure I'll buy DoFP as soon as it comes out and will probably watch it several times over the next few years. That counts for something in my system.
