Even though I am a fan of the graphic novel, I didn't see the movie until Friday night (watched it with my dad, who is also a big fan of the novel).
Anyway, I thought the movie was excellent.....as good as it possibly could be (including the outstanding soundtrack)! It was extremely devoted to the novel, even using much of its dialogue. The few differences were minor and understandable. The fake versions of Nixon and other political/news figures were awkward, but what can you do?
I know that Alan Moore was upset with the production and pulled his name from the project.....any reasons why? As I mentioned before, it was pretty faithful to the source material.
All-in-all, loved the movie.....

I loved the movie's Rorschach. I adored him. He was perfect. I mean, Rorschach with mask wouldn't be that hard to do, but they provided the whole package. I thank them.
I was somewhat less pleased with Jon, though. His voice was all wrong. They went for lack of emotion, but all they got was bland.
On the whole, it looked right, but I cannot forgive what they did to the end. It was Wrong. It completely disregarded what makes Watchmen a piece of Literature rather than merely another comic book -- its subversive attitude to the convention. The new end is a comic book end. It upsets me.
That being said, I have already bought the dvd. I enjoyed watching most of it.

Whole heartedly agree and question for those who saw the director's cut.

It didn't seem long at all, to me. Or slow. *NM*
