The music at the end was, unique, can't decide if it was clever or not the way they timed it, kind of rang my head like a bell.
I'm pretty sure they lamp-shaded how that one was going to go enough for even those who haven't read the books to call it. It isn't exactly a surprise outcome, the only lack of absolute certainty on it is Martin keeps the characters mortal and fallible, meaning you really don't know going if the hero is going to get killed or bypass a moral righteous outcome. Most other writers it would be a total no-brainer, here there is at least enough doubt to make it uncertain, but definitely not surprising.
